Dear Friends of Madison Voices Groups & Hearing Voices Network USA,
Friday Feb 9, 2007, I was interviewed by Daniel Smith, to discuss our work and the growth of hearing voices groups in the USA. Daniel Smith is the author of MUSES, MADMEN, AND PROPHETS: RETHINKING THE HISTORY, SCIENCE, AND MEANING OF AUDITORY HALLUCINATION.
He is writing his article about the Hearing Voices Network. It will be in the New York Times Magazine. We spoke for an over an hour & I did my best to represent HVN in a way we can all be proud of. I also mentioned all our allies in the U.S. to confirm that we are growing.
Vermont Psychiatric Survivors and Tammy Lowell who facilitates a voices group in the Vermont state hospital and who, in cooperation with VPS, is coordinating the creation of voices groups throughout Vermont.
MindFreedom International and their upcoming conference where HVN-USA will be presenting (please join us if at all possible!) http://www.mindfreedom.org/campaign/choice/
The Madison Model The Madison experience will be discussed at the Mindfreedom Conference as well.
SOAR Case Management which, in 1999/2000, fostered what is now the first autonomous hearing voices group in the USA
A local publisher who has donated many books to our voices group library
A wonderful person in the U.K. who donated start up funding for our U.S. newsletter.
The Freedom Center & Gail Hornstein their upcoming voices group and Professor Hornstein's upcoming book about voice hearing in the USA.
A Voices group facilitator in a Correctional Facility in Michigan
The National Empowerment Center and their Hearing Voices trainer.
I did my best to give all of us, who are creating groups in the USA, or helping others to do so, the acknowledgement we deserve.
I'll send out the actual article electronically, as soon as it is published.
And for those of us who are starting groups-or hoping to do so; let's prepare for some joyful growth OK?
I'll be in touch
yours,
Jenny Branks
